microscope photos

These are some of my microscope photos from yesterday's post.

It appears that a leaf is made up of segments. And in this case some parts are
still yellow and the other parts have turned brown.

i-Pad microscope

We created a simple microscope out of LEGO and an i-Pad.
Then we assembled several samples to observe them through
our microscope. For most of the samples we shone light through, to
discover what they look like.

The most amazing results were obtained with a pear stem, a printed paper,
some moss fresh off the soccer field (....yuummmie!) and a leaf.
I will post the photos tomorrow.

NN-Droid-S4 Starfighter

I built a new phantasy ship for a commando droid.  The hatch for the cockpit is at the bottom, which is unusual.  The ship has 4 flick missiles mounted on the wings. We took the ship apart to rebuild it for a stop motion film... Enjoy!

leaf animals

Yesterday, I made close up photos of leaves. Later, I practised drawing animals that are featured in an app called Pony Trails. In GraphicConverter we merged the photos with the drawings, using operations like "invert", "lasso", "colour rotation" and "invert selection".  "Enjoy"!

ENIGMATIC SYSTEM

We created a picture of a fantasy solar system. We had the help of a LEGO drawing machine that I described in an earlier post. We used a stylus with 2 cylinders, one containing the tip of a marker, the other containing a magnet. Our stylus was dragged (round and round) by another magnet that was installed to the machine underneath the glass table. We applied water colour to the almost finished drawing. In graphicConverter we inverted the colours and added a sun, which I named ENLETELES.

H2 Commando Craft

Recently I designed this H2CC, with Commando Droids in mind. This craft is piloted by such a droid, tasked with deploying separatist equipment to an ocean planet (like Kamino).  The cockpit of the H2CC is special: no other ship has 3 cockpit windows.  What's more, they are spherical.
The craft is also special because of its wings… shaped like floats on a float plane.  Of course, if a ship like this touched down on Kamino it would be blasted plain jane out of the water!  Excuse me, that was my BX series remote control vehicle systems communication aaaaaah…

Kashyyyk teaser....

We decided to make a "Battle of Kashyyyk" fantasy set.

The first  step was to make a draft of a treehouse on my chalkboard.

We had so many brown pieces, it was easy to build. We used string to stabilize the structure. We had to drill into a few bricks to stick axles through them. That was fun.

This photo shows our project in front of two treehouses that we made about two years ago.

Joker cards....

In March 2012 I created a Star Wars board game called CHASE THROUGH HYPERSPACE (you can check it out here).  Yesterday I made 3 joker cards for my game!

One side of the cards shows a character and its strength, the other side features a funny rhyme that we created for it.

Obi-Van Kenobi and Kit Fisto are the strongest characters, with 25 steps each....
Until yesterday the strongest cards were Captain Rex (21 steps) and Sidious (20 steps).

jedi planning center

This LEGO jedi planning center is where the jedi plan out their missions. My set includes Anakin, Obi-Van, Yoda, Cody, Plo Koon and Mace Windu. The pieces of map come from a sectional globe that I got for Christmas. The globe features 8 sections and shows the cities of planet Earth.

arctic OUTPOST!

This is a tower for the Star Wars Separatist Alliance that we built at home and photographed at a nearby lake.  The tower consists mainly of TECHNIC pants *sorry... parts :)
This structure reminds me of a tree-house.  The platform rotates by 360 degrees. The command centre at the top is a glass sphere.

But what the heck happened to my favourite clones? Must be the heat!!

Peace-out and seeyoulater….

STAR MACHINE

We put a flashlight on the lego machine from my previous post.  We used an app
called slow camera to create a light trail. Surprise... we got star shaped light patterns!
The exact shape of the star seems to depend on where you put the flashlight on the turning
table.  howcoolisthat!!!!

Can machines do art?

Mine can!
We built a machine that can rotate around two axles at the same time.

A glass surface is attached to the machine by one of the two axles.

Its movements can be traced with a marker that's held by a lego arm.

...repeat the process and you get these amazing shapes... not two of them are
alike!!

light-o-sel

My dad and I built a lego machine with gears, that turns around with
4 tiny flashlights on it.  It works  kind of like a carousel.

We turned the machine on and I made some photos.  The twirling movement of the lights created these amazing shapes.

The following photo shows the machine turned off, but the lights on.

REX'S X1 SPEED ATTACK

THIS tank has really awesome handling and suspension. THE wheels can handle anything you throw at them!

Baby!

We combined two pictures of the tank using graphicConverter, turning them into one picture. We did this because we wanted to show the action of the wheels.

my mobilego

It has 5 rectangular structures hanging from sticks.
We had to figure out the mass of each  structure.
We used lego dots for units, for example the smallest piece has 25 dots.
We used math to plan out all the sizes.
For example the biggest weight, 150 dots, equals the combined weight of all the other weights...

Air moves the mobilego around....
